BACKGROUND: Bacteremia ofttimes complicates cytostatic communication of hematological malignancies. Initial bactericide communication is chosen empirically before the results of cultures are available. Rational choices depend on updated noesis of microorganism status patterns. We hit examined microorganisms in murder cultures over a 10-year punctuation and compared them with the foregoing 5-year period. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We analyzed isolates from murder cultures in patients with a hematological cancerous modify aerated in the Hematology Unit, St. Olavs Hospital during the eld 1995 - 2005. RESULTS: We institute 373 isolates and 322 episodes of pathology in 225 patients. Most patients had accent cancer or myeloma, with neutropenia after cytostatic treatment. The broad pathogens were Escherichia coli (20 %), coagulase-negative coccus (13 %) and alpha-haemolytic eubacteria (10 %). Enterococcus infections seem to become more ofttimes and were related with a broad mortality. Gram-negative organisms constituted 48 % and gram-positive organisms 48 % of the isolates. About 3 / 4 of the patients had infections with penicillin-resistant bacteria. There was a baritone figure of organisms nonabsorptive to aminoglycoside. Acute cancer patients with pathology had a 30-days all-cause mortality of 10.3 %. INTERPRETATION: We institute diminutive changes in the ornament of pathogens and bactericide status over time.
